We ported in Civitavecchia this morning. Leaving a Disney cruise is always bittersweet, but I plan on posting about that particular part of our trip on another day. When we left the port, we had to take a bus to the gate of the port, then we walked to the train station, which was quite a hike. Then from the time we purchased our train tickets to getting on the train we had 2 minutes. We had to go down stairs, under the tracks, and back up the stairs. We barely made it. After that, it was about one hour into Roma on a hot, sweaty train. Once we got off the train, we decided to get a taxi to our hotel. That was not our initial plan, but it was already sweltering outside and we were spent. It is unseasonably warm this week in Roma, upwards of 93 degrees.

We checked into our hotel and one room was ready so we all piled in there to rest. After a bit of a rest, we went to a pizzeria a couple of doors down. After lunch, we decided to check out Piazza Del Popolo nearby. It is a large open square. Again, it is so fascinating how you just stumble across beautiful buildings and art.

Just across the square from us wasa Leonardo da Vinci museum and it was air-conditioned so we decided to give it a try. It was interactive and interesting. My mom thinks a similar one is coming to Peoria Riverfront Museum soon.

After the museum, it was back to the hotel to get out of the heat. After this, we headed out for supper, which isn’t hard to find. We happened up on a very interesting restaurant, Ristorante Museo Altelier Canova Tadolini This was a very strange, completely cool restaurant. I hope you read about it in the info section of their website, but this building was the shop for a bronze and marble sculptor and was turned into a restaurant. All over the restaurant, his plaster models are haphazardly displayed. The sculptures are currently in place all over the world today.

After dinner, we headed down Via Del Corso (large street with shopping) and over to Piazza Di Spagna, home of the Spanish Steps.

After this, we continued on to the Fontana di Trevi, the Trevi Fountain. This was one of my favorite memories from when I came here in high school and it did not disappoint.

From the Fontana di Trevi, we headed back to the hotel to rest up for tomorrow!
