We arrived in Juneau to temperatures in the 50’s and a steady drizzle. Juneau is the only U.S. Capital that is not accessible by roads. It is only accessibly by air and sea. Juneau boasts a population of around 32,000. Juneau is located in a temperate rainforest and rains 240 days a year.

Due to increasingly warmer temperatures, our Helicopter/Dogsledding excursion was canceled 3 days ago. This left little time and availability to book another excursion. We decided to see downtown Juneau on our own. I slowly realized what we were walking into when I saw multiple massive cruise ships in port. The downtown was filled with the same diamond stores that fill up most cruise port towns. We saw no way to get out of the “tourist trap” that is built around the cruise port.
We grabbed some food at the Alaskan Brewing Company, bought a few souvenirs and headed back to the boat. I wish we had went on an excursion. It is so hard to see a city from a cruise port.
