- It is cooler and windier than you think. I wish I had brought a jacket of some sort. It was sunny our entire stay, but I was often cold, especially for our morning excursions.
- Get the Muni Mobile app and purchase your passes there, even if you just plan on using the Cable Cars. It is so much easier than cash. There is a robust public transportation system, and we used Google to help us navigate it.
- Know the neighborhoods. Our hotel was in a nicer neighborhood, but on the edge. We could walk in one direction, but not the other. I felt our hotel was safe, and I felt generally safe, but just know where you are at.
- There is so much great food! I use Open Table to book our meals ahead of time, so we aren’t wandering around looking for food the day of. I don’t think it would have been an issue to find a good place to eat on the spot though.
- Like any big city, there are issues. San Francisco seems to have a big homeless population, which seems to be hand in hand with drug issues. Again, know your surroundings and neighborhoods. Many neighborhoods are perfectly fine during the day, but not so much at night.
- Worth Doing: Biking the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito and Muir Woods, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, Cable Cars
