Thanksgiving in New York: Day 3

11/24/2025

We started out our day with the 9/11 memorial. I did not take any pictures, but visit their website here to see pictures and learn more.  It is a must-see if you are in New York City. Also, I really recommend the guided tour. Most tour guides are directly connected to 9/11. Our guide lived directly across the street from the World Trade Center and came home to blown out windows. She had personal stories and raw emotion that she shared with our group. We could have spent much longer than the hour and a half we were there.

After the museum, we went to Fraunces Tavern  for lunch.  On November 25th,1783 George Washington led a triumphant parade through the streets of New York and had a banquet there celebrating Evacuation Day. On December 4th, he gave his farewell speech to officers in this tavern.  It was just a cozy as you might expect. They recommended the chicken pot pie and fish and chips. The kids got chicken pot pie and I got fish and chips. Dan got steak on a stone, where you cook your own steak on a hit stone. For desert, we had cheesecake, sticky pudding, and streudel.

After lunch, we stayed in the financial district and walked through Broad Street to Wall Street to Trinity Church. We walked past the New York Stock Exchange and Federal Hall. We visited the beautiful Trinity Church, where Alexander Hamilton, his wife Eliza, and his sister-in-law, Angelica, are all buried.

After this, we did a bit of shopping before grabbing a pizza at Angelo’s Pizza. We saw Angelo’s on our way to Central Park yesterday. Dan noticed the sign that said it was coal fired pizza. He knew that there were only a few coal fired ovens grandfathered in, so he was very interested in trying it.  Of course, he had to see what Dave Portnoy thought of it. Dave gave Angelo’s Pizza a 9.3, which I guess is pretty rare. We were not super hungry but shared a pizza.

After supper,  we went back at the hotel before heading to Rockefeller Center to ice skate. Other than the tree not being lit yet, I am not sure we could have had a better time. The kids have already looked up other rinks in New York City that they are hoping to visit.
