We left Chicago at 9:00pm Chicago time. We landed in London at 11:00am London Time (5:00am Chicago time). I had researched how to store our bags at the airport (Gatwick) so that we could take the train to downtown London to see some sights. First off, our plane arrived late. Next, it logistically took longer than I had planned to go through the airport, customs, and checking our luggage in at the storage site. We ended up heading in the wrong direction and taking a taxi to Buckingham Palace.

After Buckingham Palace we walked through St. James Park towards Westminster Abbey. Near Buckingham Palace there are several beautiful gardens.

At Westminster Abbey, we decided that we did not have the time to take the tour and this would definitely be a re-visit on another trip.

Right around the corner from Westminster Abbey we discovered that Big Ben is under construction until 2021 and completely under construction. From there, we went to visit Herrod’s. We enjoyed the gift shop and window shopping. Finally, we went back to Victoria Station to hopefully find some food. We were in luck! Right where our taxi dropped us off was a pub advertising Fish and Chips! We enjoyed our meal.

From there we grabbed the train back to Gatwick to await our flight to Barcelona tonight at 7:20pm London time (1:20pm CST). Our time in London was a whirlwind, but we saw some sights and cannot wait to return. We definitely have two anglophiles on our hands.
